So you want to become a published writer? Well, I can help you. Not in the publishing way, but in the writing way.
Publishers only accept well-written, engaging manuscripts. They don't want half-thought-out, shoddy pieces of work - they'll only chuck it in the bin. You want your story to catch them unawares, and drag them kicking and screaming into your story.
First of all, as much as you might want to set the scene at the start of the story, it'll not catch their attention. You must start with some action, some piece of interesting description, something to make them go "Wow!".
